Background

The lead investigator in the planning policy lab is Dr. Nir Mualam, a lawyer and urban planner. He is an expert in land use planning litigation and regulation. He specializes in policy analysis and advises pro bono to local as well as national government.  His work has inspired change in existing local and national policies.

The lab focuses on policy studies that can inform and inspire change in Israel and abroad. Lab members explore a range of policies in order to inquire what works and what does not and to assess the impact of land use policies. In so doing.

Research focus

Examples of major research topics include:

  • Housing policies.
  • Urban regeneration.
  • Value capture.
  • Vertical development.
  • Policies pertaining to street art in the city.
  • Heritage preservation.
  • Centralization and devolution reforms.
